On Saturday October 31, 2009 at approximately 04:00 AM Surrey RCMP received a report of shots fired in the 10200 block of 152a Street.
Upon arriving at scene patrol officers entered a residence and observed an adult female on the floor suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. The female was in severe medical distress. After a further search of the residence, patrol officers encountered a male also suffering from an apparent gunshot injury along with multiple additional people inside the home.
BC Ambulance Service attended the scene and proceeded with medical intervention on the female, unfortunately the female died at scene.
The male was treated and transported to a local area trauma hospital where he is being treated for his injury. At this point it is thought that the injury is non life-threatening , however, will require surgery.
The scene was secured and the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service conducted a search of the area. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in to handle the investigation with the assistance of Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Section.
Later today, The Lower Mainland Forensic Identification Section will proceed with a crime scene investigation.
IHIT investigators will be in the area for the entire day conducting neighbourhood inquiries looking to see what if anything area residents can assist investigators with.
Investigators are attempting to confirm the identity of the deceased female and the injured male. Once their identification has been confirmed, next of kin will be sought out.
An autopsy is anticipated as early as Monday.
